I met Daglous in Kampala, Uganda this last October. Five different friends had come to my hotel room to see me one day. All six of us were getting hungry and decided to go to a little restaurant a few doors down. These guys were eating and laughing and having such a good time. I was, however, completely distracted by this young man I saw sitting at a table by himself, eating a small amount of food. I could feel God highlighting him to me but I tried to ignore it in order to pay attention to my friends. But the pull toward this young man was so strong, though, that I couldn’t put it aside anymore.

The 21 year old had gotten up to wash his hands. I went to the counter and paid for his food. When he came back I asked his name and told him that God want’s to bless him today. Words proceeded to pour from my mouth and he was very engaged, though his head was down the whole time. Then I asked if I could hug him and he gave me the go ahead. When I hugged him I could feel something so so emotional happening. No father or friend had hugged him ever before. This guy was melting. 

By my invitation Daglous joined me for dinner at my hotel the next night. A couple of other friends were there too and they were so kind to him. He was so happy. At one point I felt like God inspired me to take Daglous aside for a few more words and to tell him that he is handsome. He started to cry. (The photo you see here) Nobody in his life has ever told Daglous that he’s handsome. In fact, any reference to his looks has been negative teasing. 

The following day was my departure day from Uganda. Daglous came back to wish me goodbye and spend a little more time with me. It was such a precious time.

Today Daglous goes to that same little restaurant from time to time to get food for his boss. He will send me videos of the place and himself in it. Each time he tells me that he cries when he goes there now because of the love he experienced. This is love I displayed was from God’s beautiful heart. Daglous realizes, now, that God really does see him. Also, he’s told me that his entire life has changed since that day. He feels he’s a better person and it seems things fall into place more these days.
